Academy Ranches serves boys ages 10 through 17 with mild to moderate emotional, psychological, and behavioral problems. Youth are divided into groups according to age, emotional maturity, and adaptability. Typical problems addressed in our program include:

  • Anger
  • Risk-taking
  • Running away
  • Adoption issues
  • Lack of motivation
  • Negative peer group
  • Oppositional attitude (ODD)
  • Attention issues (ADD)

  • Adolescent pressures
  • Alcohol and drug use
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Divorce and family issues
  • Skipping or failing school
  • Defiance at home and school
  • Delinquency
  • Behavior control (ADHD)

Most of the youth have been unable to change through traditional outpatient therapy or other interventions. Many of the youth may have refused to go to therapy or have not been invested in change. Some youth have been suspended or expelled from school while others are even facing minor problems with the law (e.g., shoplifting, possession of contraband, truancy, etc.). While all of these behaviors can and do cause great distress to parents and families, at Academy Ranches, we do not believe they represent the problem. Our goal is to help youth identify those behaviors and thought processes that cause distress and to help youth develop positive cognitive strategies to produce desirable and lasting results.

Help for oppositional defiant disorder teens

Academy Ranches offers a staff secure, 24-hour supervised program to contain the youths’ disruptive behaviors, offer a sense of security and safety to both the youth and their families, and provides a consistent, therapeutic environment in which youth can identify and explore the problem and be guided to appropriate solutions. Using a powerful combination of cognitive-behavioral and experiential modalities, youth learn to trust, to share, and to heal.
